David Tanner's Ups And Downs In 2011

Saxo Bank | November 16, 2011

Aussie, David Tanner joined Saxo Bank-SunGard entering the 2011 season and in his first pro tour season, the 27 year-old rider did six top ten results including finishing fifth overall in the Dutch stage race, Ster ZLM Toer. In addition, the admirably aggressive rider turned out to be a great teammate on the road:

“My first season has been full of both good and bad experiences. Personally, it's been good for me to be able to see I'm always progressing and it motivates me to experience that I'm able to be competing for the victory. Finishing fifth in Ster (ZLM Toer) was naturally great and it confirmed that I'm able to compete at the highest level but there have been other achievements along the way that made my first season a successful one and that makes me believe I'll do even better next year. However, I have had a few setbacks as well, breaking a few bones and had a bit of illness that got in the way for me. All in all, I'm happy with the season and happy to be on this incredible team,” said Tanner.

Most European riders face a long and chilly winter but on the South side of the globe, Saxo Bank-SunGard's David Tanner will be enjoying the off-season in the sun:

“I'll be staying in Australia until at least the team bonding camp in December. I have a few weddings and different events to go to and I enjoy the Melbourne cup which is a horse race I go to every year. Otherwise, I plan on going to the beach for a week to relax and to do some surfing”, says Tanner and from the beach, he'll be looking forward to a fantastic 2012 season:

“This year was a year of learning for me, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can achieve next year I'm also excited to be working with my team mates as I think there's a good team sprit forming. In Tour of Beijing, I noticed that our lead out train for JJ (Haedo) is getting much better and I reckon we can do a great job for him in 2012.”
