Driving back from camp

February 1, 2010

Driving back from camp on the same highway that I drove down 16 days ago, the AP-7. Only 650 kilometers separate Girona from Calpe but meteorogically speaking, worlds apart. Take this morning for example. This morning we left at 9am in shorts and rode 125k in the mountains and now my wife just informed me that it is currently snowing in girona! Back to the real world it is. A world where there isn't a buffet of food waiting for me after ever meal, where I can't get away with throwing my towel on the floor and my bike isn't preped and ready to go every morning. This will take some adjusting as usual but as usual I can't wait for it to happen. I can't wait to get my kids out of bed, pick them up from school, make my own omelet, however I do like having my bike ready.

The camp was good, we got a ton of work done on and off the bike. Everything from testing to meetings to massage, to photo shoots and then of course we trained once in a while too. We even threw a race in there for good measure. David Millar, who also rides Specialized shoes, won the race. He was nice enough to pay the bar tab with his winnings last night, (more on that later). I finished mid pack, completely confused of where the finish line was. I thought that we had to do 2 laps of this horrible circuit and couldn't believe how the other guys were racing at such a speed only half way through the race, only to see Dave throw his arms up in victory. I was pissed at myself for not paying attention before the start but to be honest, I was pretty relieved we didn't have to do another lap above threshold. (I wouldve won if it was another lap for sure)

Apart from that I am proud to say that we concocted a new Pom Wonderful drink called "Pom-Pagne" It is Cava and a little Pom Wonderful concentrate. Ok, I know that it has been done before but you gotta admit, its a great name and it name holds true the next day morning. And you didn't do it with Pom executives sitting at your table.

Stats for Christian Vande Velde are coming soon.
