Sara Tarkington
Born and raised in Denver, CO I grew up playing just about every sport out there; soccer, softball, tennis, swimming, skiing. After seeing a TV commercial for Ironkids Triathlon and convincing my parents to take me to the race, I fell in love with the sport. I went on to represent the USA at the ITU World Championships in 1997 and 1998. In college I ran cross-country and tack at University of Colorado for 2 years (1999-2001) before leaving the team to return to triathlon. I competed at two more ITU World Championship races in 2003 and 2004 and then took a break from racing for 3 years during graduate school. I was ready for a new challenge and made my debut on the Xterra scene in 2007. I love riding trails and grow sad during the winter when I’m forced to ride more on the road. While my favorite outfit is sweatpants I spend my days running around in skirts and suits as a social worker. I am employed full-time by Boulder County and work with adolescents involved in the Juvenile Integrated Treatment Court (drug court for kids).
