Specialized Racing: USA Triathlon

From ITU Olympic distance to Ironman to off road Xterra, the 2012 roster for Specialized USA Triathlon team is ready to make waves this season.

Returning from a dominating 2011 season, Ben Hoffman is back for more. With numerous 2011 Ironman 70.3 victories, and great full distance results we are very excited to see what “The Hoff” has in store for 2012. Making his Kona debut aboard the all new Shiv, Ben will be an unstoppable force in 2012.

Also making her return for the 2012 season, will be Tenille Hoogland. Tenille will return to the long course distance with a full schedule of racing between the Rev 3 series and Ironman events.

New for 2012 and joining the long course team, the no-name, new comer Jesse Thomas. After his bike was smashed by baggage handlers on his way to California, Jesse rode a friend’s loaner in a pinch and hoped for the best at the 2011 Avia Wildflower event. Jesse made a name for himself as he headed down the finishing chute about to join the ranks of former champions like Chris “Macca” McCormack, leaving the announcers literally speechless not knowing who the former college steeplechase runner from Stanford was. Needless to say, Jesse made his way to the big leagues having great finishing results throughout his season.

With all eyes on the Olympic games this summer, Specialized USA is excited to bring onboard overall powerhouse and Olympic qualifier Gwen Jorgensen. Having enjoyed a meteoric rise in triathlon, building on the athletic success she enjoyed at the University of Wisconsin, Jorgensen burst onto the Multi-Sport scene in 2010. Since then, her long list of impressive results and accolades including 2010 USAT Rookie of the Year and Duathlete of the Year, 2011 USAT Elite Race Series Champion and an ITU World Cup Champion. Gwen will be one to watch for at the London games.

With a focus on the Xterra series, Emma Garrard and Sara Tarkington continue their hunt for glory in 2012 aboard the new women’s specific Fate 29er.

Drawing from a complete collection of Specialized bikes the team will be riding the new S-Works Shiv, Tarmac SL4, S-Works Amira, S-Works Epic 29er, and the Fate 29er.

The team will also compete in S-Works Prevail helmets, our wind cheating TT2 Helmet, the new S-Works Trivent Shoes and BG saddles.

The complete team will be racing over 80 different events in 2012 both here in the states and representing Specialized and the USA across the world.
