Lene takes second overall!
Specialized Factory Racing | September 21, 2009
The final round in Schladming had been setup as a nail biter finish for the season. Elisabeth Osl had taken back the leaders jersey the week before but the points difference was small enough for things to change. Lene had to win with Osl finishing in third or worse, not the easiest task with a shortened race and homeground advantage for Osl.
Intentions were made clear on the first lap as Osl went from the gun and opened up a gap to a chasing group of Pendrel, Premont and Lene a few seconds further behind. Pendrel was now a new threat as she could have shifted Lene down to third overall. As the next lapped ticked by Osl was looking to be the dominant force for the day, with the steep climbing suiting her very well. Pendrel was still in second and Lene had moved up into third position around about 25 seconds behind her.
With the start of the last lap Osl had a convincing lead of a minute to second place and Lene was ready to show her characteristic display of determination as she fought to close down the 20 seconds and pass Pendrel with just a few kilometers left to secure second place on the day as well as second in the overall UCI World Cup standings.
