Olympic bound and first ever world cup podium.June 27, 2012
Last week was just great. On Wednesday I along with Geoff Kabush, Catherine Pendrel and Emily Batty were selected to represent Canada for mountain biking at this summer's 2012 Olympic Games in London. Our race there is the last day of the games on August 12th. It's hard to explain the feeling of getting chosen for the Olympics, but it's a huge honor and I'm very proud and will hopefully make Canada proud on race day.
Then on Saturday I achieved another first for me, I raced to a podium spot in a World Cup in Mt St Anne-Quebec. I have always dreamed about stepping on a world cup podium and I couldn't think of a better place to do it then in my home country. The fans were just amazing out there and the cheering definitely helped me push that little bit extra which makes a difference when your racing for a podium spot in a WC. I didn't have as good as a start that I hoped for but I had great legs and equipment and just moved up when I could and didn't end up catching 5th place until half way through the last lap which was pretty exciting. The rain that came down with 2 laps to go played to my advantage for sure as the conditions were just like how it is at home in Victoria in the winter, I definitely felt at home!
I'm now in Windham for another World Cup. I feel no pressure at all so I am going to dig especially deep and see how much I can push myself out there. Rode the course today and it's great. Quite a bit of climbing and then some really fast, rocky-rooty technical dh's in the woods and just perfect for the S-Works Epic 29'r again.
Huge thanks to all my friends family, friends and sponsors for all the support and messages recently...couldn't of made it to here without any of you.
Looking forward to getting home in time for Canada day this Sunday back home in Victoria, going to be lots of celebrations eh!
