Tour of Utah

August 26, 2010

They say that the Tour of Utah is the hardest stage race in America, and the way I felt through it they probably aren’t too far off. I started with the intension of taking it easy the first few days, and saving the legs for the end of the week. By mid week I had to put things into perspective: after only a couple weeks back on the bike after mid season break, with no altitude preparation for one of the windiest, hilliest, highest races in America. I was simply being unrealistic thinking I could feature in the race. It was certainly a really good week of training, as well as great fun catching up with the Cal Giant Strawberry guys. I also took advantage of the opportunity to catch up with Randy @ H20 Overdrive who is based in Park City, with H20 Overdrive being a big supporter of myself as well as the MTB series. On another note, it was beautiful to see good friend Jai Crawford hold Levi off for the final stage win. Jai’s my main training partner back home in Tasmania and one of the hardest men out there, he certainly proved it on that stage. From Utah straight back to racing in So Cal @ Over the Hump Tuesday night. The race lasted all of 7 minutes, when two spokes decided to pop while leaning around a corner. Geez I hate mechanicals, but guess that’s racing some days.
